Land Swaps = Potential Higher Density = Wildfire Risk

As mentioned in RC3e’s February Newsletter, one of the issues being considered in Leavenworth’s comprehensive plan update process is whether the urban growth area (UGA) boundaries around the city should be modified. The city is examining several possible ‘UGA swaps’ that would involve bringing certain areas currently outside the UGA into the UGA (see map). The net effect could be significant increases in development densities in areas that are currently agricultural/rural.

RC3 submitted a letter to the city Planning Commission stressing the importance of considering wildfire risks in determining the appropriateness of increased densities in areas currently located outside the UGA.
